Electronic Speed Controller(ESC)

Electronic Speed Controller known as ESC has 2 major functions :
1) Converts battery voltage down to 5v which is what a receiver runs off if. Not all speed controllers have this capability. When buying one what you are looking for is  ESC which says on it BEC or UBEC. This stands for [ (Universal) Battery Elimination Circuit]

2) ESC converts the DC power from your battery to an AC current which is required by the motor. Brushless motors run off of AC current.

ESC Selection:

ESC are sold based on amperage rating. Each Motor has got different amount amperage rating. When buying an ESC buy it with amperage rating greater than the amperage rating of the motor. For Example if you have an motor that pulls 10amps then you shall buy an ESC with rating greater than 10 amps. The higher the rating of ESC the less heated up it would become. Overheating of ESC can even burn your RC plane into flames. So always be cautious while buying the right ESC.
